Budgam, May 25: J&K RTI Movement organized a one day awareness programme on Right to Information Act (RTI Act) at Khansahib Budgam on Wednesday.
RTI activist, Dr Sheikh Ghulam Rasool explained with what great difficulties RTI Movement was started in Kashmir and how they lobbied with various groups to bring about the J&K RTI Act 2009. He also explained how national level activists like Aruna Roy etc had worked for bring this kind of revolutionary law.
J&K Senior Civil Society chief spokesman and veteran RTI activist, Syed Nasrullah Shah explained the level of unaccountability in the Government agencies. He clarified that Kashmir was a political problem which needs a political solution, but there are other social issues which had pushed the Kashmiri society into dark ages of corruption, poverty, unaccountability and bureaucratic secrecy.
WealthCity, CEO Dr Ajmal who is working on Islamic Investment Advisory, highlighted the fact that Islam had stressed so much on Public responsibilities of each and every Muslim towards the society at large, so much so that it become obligatory on a Muslim.
He advised that a Muslim should work on betterment of this world and hereafter. He said working on RTI was part of Huqooq-ul-bad. He also stressed how poverty was a major cause and how Islamic Finance would be a solution for the problems in the Valley.
Convener, RTI Movement, Dr Raja Muzaffar Bhat appealed to the PIO’s and other officers to immediately inform RTI Movement activists if there was any persons claims to be an RTI Activist and was blackmailing them in the name of RTI. He said they were in discussion with authorities to come up with solutions so that there was no misuse of the RTI Act.
